COMMUNITY ACTION PROGRAM (CAP)
The UAW Community Action Program (CAP) is the political and legislative arm of our union, dedicated to advancing the interests of working families and advocating for policies that strengthen our communities. Through CAP, we ensure that the voices of UAW members are heard at every level of government.
Since being elected President of UAW Local 14, I have worked to expand our involvement in the political process and strengthen our relationships with elected officials. As President of the UAW Toledo Area CAP Council, representing nearly 25,000 UAW members, I believe every opportunity to advocate for workers must be seized.
Our local has welcomed national, state, and local leaders to discuss issues that directly impact our members. When President Joe Biden visited Local 14, we used that opportunity to advocate for new electric vehicle work, helping secure future jobs for our members. We hosted Senator Sherrod Brown for a Workers' Rights Forum, creating a platform for working people to share their concerns and priorities. I was also invited to Washington, D.C., to serve as a witness before a Congressional Select Committee on Economic Disparity and Fairness in Growth, where I shared the challenges and opportunities facing working families.
CAP is about more than meetings and endorsements—it is about action. When the Governor of Ohio attended our product announcement, we raised concerns about the state's unemployment system and the hardships it created for workers. We don't wait for opportunities to come to us; we create them when necessary and use every available platform to advocate for our members.
Our endorsement process is built on accountability. We support candidates who support working people, collective bargaining, good-paying jobs, retirement security, and workers' rights. Through voluntary VCAP contributions, we strategically invest resources where they can make the greatest impact for UAW members and their families.
CAP also stands in solidarity with workers during labor disputes, supporting union members on strike and helping build the strength of the labor movement. Whether advocating for job security, fair wages, stronger labor laws, or economic justice, CAP remains committed to advancing UAW values and principles.
Together, we are building political power, protecting workers' rights, and shaping a future that works for all working families.
